Message from Carlos - May 2015

May 1, 2015

May at the Capitol means long days filled with meetings and committee hearings along with extended time spent on the Senate floor. Often the environment is more contentious, as it becomes apparent each member will not be able to pass all of the good ideas they filed.

In fact, this legislative session the Senate has devoted its time to a much smaller body of legislation. As of last week, the Senate has passed 371 bills, 42% less than the 641 passed by this time in the last session. I have been able to work with my colleagues to advance my legislative package and was able to get one of the first bills passed to the Governor this session. I am hoping this trend will continue.

Cities and counties throughout Senate District 19 are ramping up for the May elections. There are many important decisions to be made that will impact our communities. Remember, elections have consequences, and the most important vote is yours. If you are in Bexar County, you may click here to find a voting location near you.

If there is an issue important to you, now is the time to reach out to your elected officials and speak up. I welcome your thoughts, suggestions, and want to hear your concerns as this feedback allows me to make informed decisions. With only one month left in the 84th Legislative Session, the pace is going to increase dramatically so if there is a piece of legislation that either interests you or concerns you, I'd like to hear about it.
